Advanced Biology

This is a rigorous college preparatory course designed to be taken by students after the successful completion of Biology and Chemistry. The goal of this course is to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the continually developing science of biology. Topics of study include but are not limited to the chemistry of life, cell biology, metabolism, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, the cell cycle, meiosis, and genetics. This course differs significantly from the usual high school biology course with respect to the kind of textbook used, the range and depth of topics covered, and the time and effort required by the student. The book is a college-level text. Students should expect a demanding workload including, but not limited to, weekly readings, homework, quizzes, lab activities, tests, and projects.
 
There will be a comprehensive semester test and/or a comprehensive final exam at the conclusion of the course.
 
The textbook is Campbell's Biology, 8th edition (There is no companion website.)
